Get a taster of Turkey at its best in this package which combines Ottoman history, ancient civilizations, culture, adventure and the sun and sea of the Mediterranean. The ‘Golden Triangle’ is the ideal itinerary for those who want to cover must see sites on an unforgettable, 15 day trip.
The Journey: The first leg of our trip commences in Istanbul, where we’ll be staying in the heart of the old city, a stones throw from all the main attractions. A flexible itinerary will allow you to enjoy a private guided tour, with visits to Byzantine and Ottoman sights. Think St. Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Underground Cistern, and Topkapi Palace – which was inhabited by 20 Ottoman rulers over 400 years. There’ll be time for a shopping spree at the historical Spice Market and Grand Bazaar. Here we’ll be meeting local craftsmen and merchants, selling everything from textiles, jewelry, carpets and antiques, to leather goods, soaps and spices.
Our next stop is Capadocia, following a 1 hour domestic flight. It’s little wonder they call this the land of ‘Fairy Chimneys.’ An ethereal moonscape rife with ancient cave churches, frescoes, monasteries, cave dwellings, and underground cities. Embark on a journey into the past, through the Unesco World Heritage sites of Goreme and Zelve Open Air Museum. Take advantage of the splendid hiking trails in the region, and experience a breath taking balloon ride over this magical landscape at sunrise.
We’ll hit the road again, headed South-West. A quick stop-over in Konya will afford a visit to the Mevlana museum, the burial place of the Sufi sage and poet, Rumi. A second UNESCO World Heritage Site on our itinerary is Hierapolis, the ancient Greco-Roman city. Also in the vicinity is Pamukkale, locally known as ‘Cotton Castle.’ These natural hot springs have been used as spa since the 2nd Century BC. Take a dip in Cleopatra’s bath among roman ruins. Then saunter down the Travertine through the constant flowing water. At your choice, we will head to the ancient site of Laodicea, home of one of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse.
Our final stop is Kalkan, where we’ll check you into your private, sea-side property. Our local team will welcome and brief you on the area. When: The Golden Triangle package operates throughout the year and there is no minimum participation required. Our fully flexible itinerary can be extended or altered to suit guests needs.
Accommodation: For the first leg of the trip, options range from 4 star or boutique hotels to deluxe/luxury accommodation where available. In Kalkan we offer a range of apartments and villas for weekly rental, to suit all budgets.
