Treasures of Lycia Tour

Home to one of the most strategic roads of ancient history, today the Lycian Region is the perfect combination of natural, and cultural beauty. ‘Treasures of Lycia’ is the ideal itinerary for those who want to enjoy the Land of Light to its fullest.

The Journey: The trip commences in Antalya, a seaside city where the atmosphere is laid back and the town centre maintains its charm with traditional wooden and stone houses with verdant gardens that open onto the breathtaking Gulf of Antalya.  

First stop is a relaxing spa visit to Sefa, one of the best traditional hamams in all of Turkey. Then we’ll be catching up with some history at the shrine of Termessos. The mountain top location of this ancient Lycian – Roman city means it’s often neglected from daily tours of the region. On the third day we’ll be driving up to Cirali village. This bucolic settlement is a quick stroll from one of the most peaceful beaches in the area, and affords us a stop off at Phaselis. Come evening, we’ll be embarking on a trek from Cirali to the legendary lair of the Chimaera, or YanartaÅŸ, as it’s locally known. The 3 km route is an easy walk along a rough stone path as we climb North-wards. Located on the hill-side above the Temple of Hephaestus, the ground here is rife with dozens of flames which issue from the mass of rock with no apparent fuel to sustain them.

On our fourth day we head to the village of Ucagiz, with a quick stop at Demre where the origin of the Santa Clause legend is rooted. Our final adventure, before reaching Kalkan, is a private boat tour. Our day-trip takes us along local bays before we stop off at the area once known as Simena, where ancient and modern history meet. Here, we’ll explore the ruins of Kekova’s sunken city, still visible beneath the water’s surface. Next stop is the undisclosed site of Aperlai. Virtually unknown by the masses of tourists that visit Lycia every year, Aperlai is a huge archaeological site atop on a hill. Said hill encloses a turquoise bay in which there is a third sunken island, which lies waiting to be discovered beneath the waves.

On completing the first leg of our trip, you’ll be transferred to Kalkan, and checked into your selected property. Here, our local team will welcome and brief you on the area. When: Treasures of Lycia can be operated from April 15 to November 15, and there is no minimum participation required. The programme is fully flexible and can be extended or altered to suit your requirements.

Accommodation: Options range from 4 star or boutique hotels to deluxe/luxury accommodation where available + a private villa in Kalkan.
